One in three Internet users say they would now use the online dating services to meet a date, according to new internet dating research. The Online Dating Research, from Nielsen//Netratings, questioned the dating habits of 3,400 people, 58% of whom were men and 42% women.

The research revealed that the Internet is now the joint third most popular method for getting a date, with a third (33%) of those interviewed going online to find a partner. It means that every third single uses online dating to stop being single and if you are seriuos about getting married you must try online dating at least to meet those singles who don't visit bars and pubs. They just sitting at home at write e-mails to potential dates.

Alex Burmaster, European Internet analyst at Nielsen//NetRatings said: “Internet dating and personals websites are already attracting over three and a half million people per month in the UK, and our research shows it’s growing at an enormous rate - both DatingDirect.com and Match.com have almost doubled their audience in 12 months.”

"In terms of the gender divide, the internet dating research revealed that women were more likely to be looking for friendship, while men were more likely to be looking for a relationship. The men questioned were also four times more likely to look for a no strings fling than women" - in our opinionsome interesting tips for men could be made from this fact:

1. Remember that mostly women looking for friendship from the first contact. Don't try to organize a date from the first e-mail. Become a women friend and you'll have success with her heart.

2. Work on "About Me" section. Women give more attention than your photo! Usually men don't like to write a lot about theirselves.

Men were most likely to contact someone because they liked their photo, while women were most likely to contact someone based on their description. So we would highly recommend women to use professional photos to use them on online dating services. Internet dating report made by NetImperative shows that men approach don't change in online dating world: they still look to women face and body instead of looking to woman soul.

Every factor, except photos, were more important to women than men, particularly for job (twice as likely to be important to women than men) and income (2.5 times as likely).
