After less than one year DownToEarth, a free dating site run by Match.com's has relaunched as Stir.com. The new brand will focus on offering young adults ideas for where to go on dates.

“We’re thrilled to announce that Stir.com is going live today to give 18 to 25 year olds suggestions about the best places to go, and people to go with, based on their interests,” said Jacob Solotaroff, General Manager of Stir. “We learned a lot from our trial with DownToEarth.com and know that we have a unique way to help college-aged people interact with one another. Stir.com will help them mix up their nights.”

All of DowntoEarth.com's members have been rolled over to Stir.com. Older members will be incentivised to try Match.com.

A New York man sued dating website Match.com on Tuesday for misleading members by posting profiles of prospective dates who are unable to respond to any interest in them because they do not have a paid subscription.

Sean McGinn, of Brooklyn, who filed the lawsuit in New York federal court, accused Match.com of causing "humiliation and disappointment" for some members who feel rejected when their attempt to contact a prospective date gets no reply.

Match.com attacked by virusThe website of popular online dating service Match.com is being used to spread a trojan called Papras over the web, according to a security alert from a major network security company.

The attack involves messages claiming to be from someone on the dating website who wants to show the user pictures and videos, to lure the user into visiting a malicious website, according to today's security alert. When the user starts the video on the malicious site, they are prompted to install a video player which is a trojan with relatively low anti virus detection, the alert said.

Match.com is rolling out psychometric personality testing on its site to offer its 15m members better value. The 30-minute test will take users through 56 questions, some based on images, to help those searching for a partner. Early results show 88% of members were completing the test. Match.com international MD Jason Stockwood said the product was its biggest innovation in five years.

It is hoped that AskMen Dating, which launches today (October 27), will appeal to younger men. Speaking honestly this is not a new dating site but new co-branded version of Match.com on AskMen.com.

The site will offer readers of AskMen access to Match.com's nationwide database but will have a "slick, male-oriented" site. It will have a quick search function that will allow users to browse profiles before registering.
